Two hundred forty-five nets
The Seaside Beach Volleyball Tournament returns August 5–9. For five days the beach is a city, and Broadway works like one.

On a Wednesday in August the sand in front of the Prom stops being a beach and becomes a grid. Two hundred forty-five nets. More than three thousand teams. Something like forty thousand people over five days. The Seaside Beach Volleyball Tournament is in its forty-fourth year and, billed as the largest in North America, no longer bothers to whisper.

On the ground
Play runs August 5 through 9, 2026. Organizer Sadie Mercer told The Astorian the field grew from 239 nets last year and added a fifth day. New this year: Glow Volley on Thursday, nets and balls under LED, EDM on the sand; a free concert on Saturday. Mercer has the Venice, Italy tournament in her sights — they have 300 nets, she said, but Seaside had 3,032 teams with registration still open, against Venice’s cap of 2,000. Juniors and parent-child doubles start Wednesday. College coaches come to scout. The rest of the town comes to work. Hotels fill. Broadway’s stools fill. The tournament is a fundraiser for the Seaside Downtown Development Association and Seaside Kids Inc., which is the civic sentence underneath the whistle.
“We’ve actually expanded this year. Last year we only had 239 nets. We also expanded to a fifth day and added in a couple new activities like the Glow Volley on Thursday and a free concert on Saturday.”
